This weekend, Wimbledon commentator Andrew Castle caused quite the stir during the final between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, for commenting on Mirka Federer’s engagement ring instead of keeping his eyes on centre court.

During the tense match that went to five sets, Andrew Castle suggested that Mirka’s ring looked expensive. “Doesn’t look like costume jewellery, does it, on the finger?”

Whilst many were quick to fire back through social media that his comment was unnecessary, we can absolutely see why he was distracted by the stunning design.

Mirka’s engagement ring is estimated to be around 20 carats. The giant diamond is set in a swirl of pavé-set diamonds that continue to curve around her finger. The curved band gives the ring a unique, contemporary feel that certainly is unlike anything else we’ve seen.

While Roger Federer may have lost the title to Novak Djokovic, Mirka definitely won the prize for the most striking jewellery worn at Wimbledon.
