Originally crafted in 2011 in order to mark the partnership between Tudor & Ducati, the Fastrider became the first technical and decidedly sporty line, dedicated to the world of performance motorbikes. Reimagining the classic craftsmanship conventions of both trades in 2013, the brand’s aimed to connect the world of fine watchmaking with that of sports motorbikes – Tudor created the Fastrider Black Shield chronograph in matte black Monobloc ceramic middle case, whilst Ducati also extended to the customisation of the Ducati Diavel using the same design language.Tudor Fastrider Black Shield Black and White 42000CN - 1

In 2015, Ducati have pushed their own boundaries of design and created the XDiavel, which in turn has inspired Tudor to create an exclusive new addition of its all-ceramic chronograph. With the XDiavel commanding a decidedly relaxed, feet-forward riding position, Tudor have opted for an equally laid-back aesthetic to their timepiece; stripping back the previous red or khaki accents, in place of an all-black model that carries an unobtrusive panache.

Maintaining the iconic chronograph design that was modelled on that of the motorcycles, whilst the design is almost identical to that of the other Fastrider chronographs, the striking contrast of white detailing and overall lack of colour give the illusion of a far less busy watch face. The 42mm matte black ceramic case is matched with a matte black dial, providing the perfect setting to highlight the hands and hour markers in a flat white – the whole timepiece seems to exude quiet confidence and classic, luxury style.

Suited to the high-octane lifestyle for gentlemen with a need for speed, the Fastrider Black Shield’s case and bezel are a single piece, whilst inside the case is a Valjoux 7753, meaning it’s robust and reliable – water-resistant to 150m, as well as being self-winding with a 46-hour power reserve. Not one to falter on practicality in the face of design, Tudor have designed both a leather or a rubber strap to ensure that the timepiece is always suited to whatever scenario you find yourself in, but always emanating the casual-elegance of the iconic design.

In terms of style, the Fastrider Black Shield is a sleek, sophisticated timepiece that demands to be worn with a certain panache, that’s synonymous with the modern gentleman. There’s no doubt that the watch will look at home on the wrist of any male and will effortlessly transition between day and occasion wear – injecting a touch of contemporary sports-luxe that’ll add the perfect finishing touch to any apparel.
